The Gennargentu is the highest mountain range on the island, and its peak, named after the Savoy general, with its 1,834 meters, is its spectacular and magnificent summit. To lose yourself in a breathtaking panorama, all you need is a few hours of walking along a well-marked and never overly challenging trail. One of the most popular routes is undoubtedly the one that leads from S’Arena to Punta La Marmora: approximately 14 kilometers round trip, for a total of five hours of walking. Take a break at the ruins of the Lamarmora Refuge to enjoy a packed lunch. Then, continue the journey to the summit, from where you can admire a 360-degree panorama that stretches from north to south, east to west, from the sea to the profiles of other mountains on the island, starting with the nearest Supramonte. After experiencing the thrill of conquering the highest point in Sardinia and leaving your mark in the special diary contained in a metal box, retrace the same trail back to return to the starting point in S’Arena. The trail winds through rocky terrain and very low vegetation due to the harsh winter temperatures. The environment, especially in the warmer months, takes on an almost lunar quality.
