This activity encompasses all stages of the wool supply chain, from washing to carding and spinning using traditional Sardinian tools, culminating in dyeing with locally sourced dye plants. In Tiana (NU), at the Museum of Industrial Archaeology, you can witness the beating of sheep’s wool in the only operational fulling mill in Italy. Two large wooden hammers, powered by a waterwheel harnessing the river’s energy, strike the fabric to soften and/or felt it, creating blankets, traditional Sardinian costumes, and “Saccu,” the waterproof coat used by Sardinian shepherds throughout the centuries. From the village of Tiana, we will move to Tonara (6 km), a town known for its artisanal nougat production. You can observe the traditional sweet’s preparation, have a tasting, and you will have the opportunity to purchase it. Furthermore, you can visit the artisan’s workshop where handcrafted Sardinian cowbells are made using ancient techniques that have been passed down through generations. Cowbells for cows, sheep, and hunting dogs come in various shapes and sizes, each producing a unique sound, making them one-of-a-kind pieces.
