Interweaving of knowledge and flavours

Start your journey from Mogoro where an expert textile artisan will guide you through the symbols and figures of the classic tapestries and carpets of the centre, showing the techniques handed down for generations.

Then move on to San Vero Milis to discover all the secrets behind the creation of rush baskets. The skilled craftsmen of the place will accompany the visit with information on the tradition and on the various destinations of the artifacts. Then participate in a fun weaving workshop with natural fibers. 

On the second day, visit Tiana with a guide who will take you throughl the phases of the wool supply chain from washing to carding and spinning with traditional Sardinian tools to finish with the dyeing made with local dyeing herbs. In Tiana (NU) in the Museum of Industrial Archeology you can watch the beating of sheep’s wool in the only still functioning fulling mill in Italy. The two large wooden hammers, set in motion by the wheel that exploits the energy from the river water, beat on the fabric until it softens and/or felts it to make blankets, traditional Sardinian costumes and the “Saccu”, the waterproof coat used by the Sardinian shepherd over the centuries.

The last day is dedicated to a visit to the nougat laboratories and the production of typical sweets in Aritzo.

In the same town, visit the ancient neviere, pits dug into the ground to collect snow and keep the ice. Aritzo’s horsemen transported the ice as far as Cagliari, when artificial ice was not yet widespread. It was also used to make Sa Carapigna, an ancient lemon sorbet.
