Weekend in Aritzo between history and traditions

Welcome to the wonderful town of Aritzo, where time seems to have stopped to let us immerse ourselves in its millenary history. Our tour will start through the streets of the village, where you will be able to admire historical monuments such as the ancient Spanish prisons, the majestic parish church, the suggestive Arangino castle, and the splendid Devilla manor house. But not only monuments, there are also colorful murals that tell the daily life of our ancestors. The itinerary also includes numerous fountains and springs that have made Aritzo famous for the quality of the water and the healthiness of the air. The water cycle is the protagonist of this excursion and finds its culmination in the traditional production of carapigna, a lemon sorbet made with snow that was preserved in the ancient neviere dug into the ground. You will reach the ancient neviere on foot, by mountain bike or off-road, at an altitude of 1500 meters, accompanied by the explanations of our guide who will show you the botanical species, natural emergencies, local crops and the particular fauna of the area. Lunch or an outdoor stop at the well-equipped area of ​​the spring and the traditional shale-shepherds’ hut-refuge will make you feel in full harmony with nature and local traditions.

The second day begins with a visit to a typical sweets laboratory of Aritzo. Here, you will have the opportunity to closely observe the artisanal production of these delicious sweets and to learn the secrets behind their preparation. During the visit, you can also taste the most delicious products, delighting yourself with the authentic and unmistakable flavors of Sardinia.

Your adventure continues with a visit to a typical Barbagia sheepfold, where you will discover the traditional production of cheese and ricotta. You will be able to witness all stages of production, from milking techniques to the use of milk for the production of cheeses, up to the preparation of ricotta. And, of course, there will be tastings! You can taste the products derived from Aritzo’s milk, letting yourself be conquered by the unique and authentic flavors of the Sardinian tradition.
